10 Birthday Gifts for kids that have some value.

Reading Time: 8 minutes

A child’s birthday is a special day for your child. As time goes by, humans change, their priorities change, so they might not celebrate a birthday as an adult,/they will always remember their childhood birthdays. All the gifts all fun with their buddies. From a Child’s Perspective, birthdays are special. Ask any child about their birthdays, and they will say that they are a dog with 2 tails before their birthday.

As far as a gift is concerned, a gift is a form of wishes that most of us have known for ages. If you are giving a gift to someone, you are not only giving them a gift but also giving a wish for their well-being. So it doesn’t feel like giving them something which is not useful to them.

There are lots of options out there in the market that you can give, but as a child blog, we have decided to make a list of those gifts which will add some value to others’ lives rather than just a usual gift.

Most of this would be easily available to stores, or you can just buy it online. These gifts are available in all budget ranges. However, we recommend you buy some quality products which children can enjoy, as well as use them for a long period of time. With that said, let’s get started…

1. Ramayana & Mahabharata in comics form or a child’s version.

Shock! Right?

How did Vishwamitra and Vasishtha become enemies for life? Why did King Trishanku end up hanging upside down? Why did the gods and the asuras churn the ocean? Who brought the heavenly river Ganga down to earth? How did Kacha emerge from his teacher’s stomach? oh!! all these questions!

We had to add this first to our list, cause we can’t explain how valuable it is for your child to know this.

Ramanaya & Mahabharata are not only a mythology book but also an ethics book for children, mostly for Indians.

Here are some reasons why we think every child should read Ramayana & Mahabharata

1. Justifying the ubiquitous traditions

That is the crux of both Ramayana as well as Mahabharata; they dictate the psychological instruments that were created by the great sages to communicate Vedic truths to people. For instance, in the Mahabharata, you will get all kinds of people who exist in our society. People like Dhritarashtra, Arjun, Visma, and Mama ( you know what we are talking about, not Titu mama) all exist in this world. Consequently, a child must know what happened in our land in past.

2. A delightful journey around the various states of the country

The Mahabharata shows that by that time, the whole of India was Aryanised. It also provides us with information regarding the various states existing at that time. On the testimony of the Mahabharat, we can say that the lands of Kosala, Vatsa, Matsya, etc., were very fertile. People knew about irrigation and used manure to increase the fertility of their lands. For example, the state Hastinapu, which was the kingdom of Sei Ram, is now in UP (Uttar Pradesh) (dist. Meerut)and still known as his real name, Hastinapur.

3. The timeless mythological characters

From Hanuman to Ravan to lord Krishna, to Sri Ram, to Sita these all are timeless characters. These characters are still relevant today. People still give examples of Ram, Ravan, Arjun & various other characters. By knowing them, they will learn their ideology, beliefs, and ethics.

4. A woman’s perspective in the epics

All we have listened to are tales of the valour and sacrifice of men. But this has been changing. The new-age retelling of the great epics keeps women at the forefront, from a woman’s perspective. The women-centric themes use the bulwark of patriarchy to hammer cracks into the set stereotypes from within. This will build a sense of respect towards women; it creates a sense of gender equality in your child from childhood.

2. Lego toys

We loved Lego as children, & we don’t consider it a toy, we saw it as a tool for education. This company has been working with designers & engineers for ages in order to improve its products & it is really a valuable toy. For some people, Lego is just a toy, but for others, it’s a tool for learning outside of the classroom. Lego is more than just a toy.

Here are some things that LEGO can teach your child-

  1. Lego promotes fine motor skills
  2. encourages teamwork
  3. improves creativity
  4. develops problem-solving and mathematical thinking
  5. develops persistence
  6. developing lateral thinking and planning skills, etc.

so no brainer to buy Lego as a valuable gift.

3. Piggy Banks

Financial literacy is a real-life skill. No matter what you do in life, you will need this. Without this, you wouldn’t be able to take yourself to the next level. Hence, it’s important to teach kids the value of money at an early age.

A simple piggy bank can help them learn about spending, saving, and budgeting. Setting savings goals with them and start feeding the pig, or elephant, or stormtrooper.

4. Kaleidoscope

A kaleidoscope is a toy that uses light and mirrors to reflect objects and create beautiful, fascinating, repeating patterns. The word kaleidoscope is derived from the Ancient Greek words “Kalos” meaning “beautiful”, “eidos” meaning “that which is seen” and “skopeo” meaning “to look”. David Brewster, a Scottish inventor, invented the kaleidoscope on July 10, 1817. Here is how it works.

If you want to make this at home. Check out this details video on how to make it from our friend Rob.

why you should use Kaleidoscope..

  2. It’s theory-based, the practical approach helps children, including those who are timid or lacking in self-confidence, out of this downward spiral and offers them a clear path into independent thinking, coupled with a renewal of enthusiasm for learning.
  3. It provides a safe ‘place to be’ – taking young people away from the fear of failure.
  4. Fundamentally, the Kaleidoscope Colour Therapy programme follows the basic principles conducive to a state of mind which promotes happiness.

You can give it a try.

5. Story Books

We love books, hence we insist that others read. Books are amazing cause they promote reading. One book can change someone’s life. & as we have said, Gifts mean the best wishes to someone & what can be the best better wish than giving someone books.

A comic is considered one of the most popular gifts for a reason. It promotes a reading habit while keeping the child entertained.

Comics can help children understand the importance of art in storytelling. They can learn how art clarifies the stories and have opportunities to think about colours and styles. Comics consist of a series of images arranged one after another. Reading comics develops the ability to keep track of and understand a sequence of events. Easier comprehension for children means children become more confident in their reading skills. Also, because comics are faster reads, they provide a sense of accomplishment to children. Comics can thus boost struggling readers, too!

The most famous comics companies are.

Another way to encourage the kids at the party to stay creative is by giving them colouring books. Colour plays a vitally important role in the world in which we live. This can be a great option for educational gifts.

8. Abacus or Other Study Toys

As we have already said, with the title study toys. Counting numbers with little fingers and hands was the method used before the application of sticks and stones.

Abacus learning not only helps with the basic calculations like addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division, it also helps in effective counting of decimal points, negative numbers, etc.

These toys have no age limit, thus can be used by kids for a long time. Even grown-ups are using these toys to play with their children.

Here is a details article on why Abacus learning is important for children.

 9. Stationery

Kids need it. whether you gave or their parents give them. Crayons, post-its, pencils, pencil box, erasers and sharpeners are all great gifts for party favours. These days, the stationery market is at its creative best. Every theme will have a stationery packet.

For example, Disney Princess Stationery Pouch, Superheroes Stationery Pouches, Sports-themed pouches, etc. These pouches have stylised pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, etc. that kids can use every day.

 10. Globes

Let the world be their oyster. A globe will allow students to learn about different countries, including the formation of bodies of water, mountain ranges, natural resources, and the effect that the climate has on different locations.

Geography is more than just the physical form on Earth; it also familiarises students with the workings of a compass rose, keys and titles that help with directions.

A globe can conceptualise the different locations of students and learners. You can underline the importance of diversity by allowing children to point to their place of heritage on the classroom globe, fostering a sense of commonality between students.

Students can also reinforce writing skills by comparing features of different landmasses, average temperatures and average rainfalls of different locations. Because there is a myriad of maps, students can organise and classify information, which is a useful skill set for all academic topics and subjects.

11. Caricatures

This is a bonus one & it’s pretty weird! right? You can give a child a beautiful caricature. why? What is the logic behind it is not just it is funny, but also it will force a child to think out of the box.

how!?

We are bored with so-called good pictures & photography on social media every day. That is when we see caricatures or any kind of different creative art, which is a bit different from normal, we get really excited.

Who knows, by seeing one caricature, your child would create another one, completely creative and artistic from others. So we highly encourage you to do that.
