10 Lessons that your parents didn’t teach you (part 3)

Reading Time: 8 minutes

Hello guys, in our previous article, we have talked about 10 things that your parents didn’t teach you. & this is the third part of it. therefore no need to introduce with the topic.& if you haven’t checked the first part and the second part check it here & here.

in last point we have talked about choosing quality over quantity.

1. Not getting what you want is sometimes a blessing in disguise

In life so many times you will get rejected & will not get what you want. like not getting that job, crash dumbed you, not getting some temporary desire fulfilled etc.  At that moment you will think the world is against you, life has been unfair to you. But after reaching a certain a point in life you will realise your current position has a lot of contribution from that situation or person.

As Steve Jobs has said it –

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Jack ma didn’t get a job at McDonald’s. Blockbuster refused to buy Netflix, Yahoo turned down google. History is filled with examples like this. You need to just search for it.

2. You are different, it’s time become valuable

The world doesn’t care about you as an individual until you prove your value to this world. Everyone is different & unique in some way or other but unless you don’t add up value & by value, we mean actual value to this world. people are not gonna recognize you.

Therefore its always easy to focus on your strength & make a career out of it or add value to this world in some way or other.

How does bill gates become a billionaire? He has created a product that every computer in this world needs. Demand is high supply is only one.

Even after becoming a billionaire, he has been contributing to this world so much that no one can imagine. he is currently the biggest philanthropist in the world. He is actually making this world a better place.

Make your child familiar with this kind of person. Make him read some of the successful people’s biographies. make him understand the difference between being famous as an actor or as an entrepreneur.

3. Focus on your strength, not on your weakness

This is something which almost every previous generation of parents got wrong. If you were bad at maths, what did your parents do? They probably gave you an extra math teacher on the other side, if you were good at history, they didn’t recognize it.

Successful rich people understand this better. They know other than focusing on their strength, everything will end up in mediocrity.

Do you remember the theory of the law of attraction? It says whatever you focus upon grows in life. This can also be said the other way- put your attention to whatever you want to grow in your life. For instance, if you focus on abundance, abundance grows in life, and vice versa. In a podcast of Lex Fridman, Jordan Peterson has said Be careful what you aim at, cause you will become what you aim at.

We highly recommend you focus on your child’s strengths & push them to be a master of their field.

“It’s not good to be jack of all traits master of none”.

4. Rich people are not always evil

Talking about rich people, one common fact among all the poor is that all the poor hate rich cause, first of all, they are not rich by themselves. They wish they were rich instead of not working towards not being poor anymore. How much do poor people know about? only on a surface level.

In order to create wealth, they had to work their butt-off day and day out, they had sacrificed a lot, had to use their creativity & had a thousand problems to deal with.

Look at the picture of Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, one of the most valuable people in the world. How he had started!

It’s very easy to envy someone who has more than you. & it’s also true some people are corrupt rich, but there are a bunch of people who have more than the corrupt rich & played it by the rule book.

5. value>price

Everything has a price; your job is to find out, what is undervalued. Mostly in this era, most of the info that you are getting for free has some value. Now your job is to find out what is undervalued.

This article, for example, we are delivering to you for free, doesn’t mean it’s worthless. Same goes for a book, a book will cost $10-20 but the information used there using correctly, can make you thousands or even millions of dollars. Your job is to find out what is undervalued to you.

6. Things are changing constantly it’s time for you to do the same

“We gotta make a change

It’s time for us as a people to start makin’ some changes

Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live

And let’s change the way we treat each other

You see the old way wasn’t working so it’s on us to do

What we gotta do, to survive”

      – Tupac (changes)

As Tupac has mentioned in his last album, changes are a part of life, you can’t control it, what you can control is yourself! Therefore, change yourself.

Changes may not always a good thing. It may force us out of tired habits and impose better ones upon us, but it can also be stressful, costly, and even destructive. What’s important about change is how we anticipate it and react to it. Change can teach us to adapt and help us develop resilience, but only if we understand our own capacity for growth and learning.

It’s surprising how many people still live in the past days, say, “how amazing those days were”, which probably were shitty days.

7. Travelling is not a luxury it a form of education which has its own value

Your parents might have told you that travelling is only reserved for the rich. You should only travel for fun purposes. Let us explain –

Tourism is a commercial product very similar to having a movie pass, which has been sold to you. You get to experience different things without having to go out of your comfort zone.

While travelling is more similar to exploring, immersing yourself in a destination to the point where you’re as much a part of it as it is of you.

If you wanna know this on a much deeper level, you should check our article on this topic here.

8. Reading books can be your competitive advantage

& by reading we don’t mean reading for gaining good marks but also for knowledge.

Books are heavily underrated nowadays. Everyone is crazy about movie versions of novels now, only very few people understand the importance of books.

Someone’s life experiences, mistakes, failures, successes, everything someone learned in 50 or 60 years can be downloaded into your brain in a couple of days. How amazing is that?!

It’s time you started reading self-help books!

Books are not about entertainment, but provide you with access to some of the greatest minds that ever lived.   Always remember,

“The man who reads lives hundreds of lives & the man who doesn’t live only one”.

This is one of the cheat codes that only the most successful people use.

9. Your appearance makes a difference

“People judge a book by its cover, you do it, I do it, this is what it is.”

Except this all the bullshit that you have been told since childhood was false. Like talent only matters, your look is eternal, you should only look at someone’s heart, etc.

According to modern gentleman & fashion designer Tom Ford, good dressing sense & taking care of your appearance is a form of good manners.

The fact that you know this and do nothing about it should give you something to think about.

If the world is selfish, why not use that to your advantage?

Invest in yourself, get healthy, hit the gym, stop eating junk food and pouring so much sugar in your body, buy yourself a decent pair of shoes, and stop wearing socks with sandals to interviews.

This is not rocket science, guys. We, as humans, prefer other humans who look clean and healthy. This comes from back in the day when people would die early from a multitude of contagious diseases.

It’s not even a culture thing, it’s about timing, there are appropriate moments to wear a t-shirt and sweatpants & moments when you need to bring out the big boy suits.

After social media came into our life, this is more important than ever. Now your Instagram profile is your portfolio. So why not use it for our benefit?

This doesn’t mean you should tell your child to be in social media instead of presenting themselves to the world with good things.

10. You must vote or take an interest in politics

Your parents might have told you politics is a bad place to be in, despite mentioning that without it, you can’t live on this planet. We are all ruled by it & in a democratic country you are a part of it.

The reason why we have most of the corrupt politicians or political parties in this world is that our previous generation didn’t raise their voice. They had done what they were told despite knowing the fact that the time is changing every single moment.

From a very early age, if you take an interest in what is going on in this world, in your economy, in your country, later on you can make great decision which can impact the world you as well as yourself. You can make a contribution toward pushing humanity forward.

It’s heroic, it is that, in this pandemic, how all people were giving solace despite knowing anything. One day they were economist second day they were doctors, the other day they were stock market specialists, traders & brokers.

This needs to change.

Now, this was part 3 of this series. & before leaving out we have a question for you, which were the things you thought should be in our list but weren’t? let us know in the comments. & as always, bye & take care. See you in the next article.
