12 Things that you should teach your child as soon as possible in 21-century

Reading Time: 11 minutes

Kid’s are blank paper, whatever you will write on them they will become that.

So when it comes to child education & upbringing it’s very difficult & confusing for any parents to understand what is best for their child & what is not!.

Life is a complicated game, filled with moving pieces, changing environments, changing rules & unfortunately it doesn’t come with a rule book, so we asked ourselves what would be the common traits and patterns shared by hundreds of people who we believe are successful. this includes people like innovators like Elon mask, entrepreneur like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, investors like Warren Buffett, spiritual guru like Sadguru, influencer like Gary Vaynerchuk etc.

So we made this list of 12 things that you should teach your child as soon as possible.  we have written in this title 21-century kid but it applies to all child out there.

1.The importance of time

Time & river’s flow never waits for anyone.

isn’t it ?

It’s same for everyone. Sure we are not born equal but in terms of the time, we are equal. You have the same 24 hours as Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk but the difference is that they use it for their own benefit, while you might be wasting it.

Teaching your child that time is a luxury & far expensive than any expensive thing in the world is a lifelong skill. The earlier your child understands this, the earlier they will start using it for their own benefit.

Another thing to teach about time is being busy does not mean you’re adding value to your life or to those around you.

One of the most shocking things we’ve learned in our research is how many people are constantly busy but never manage to move the needle ahead for their own.

This has to do with people allotting way more time and resources than needed to things which are URGENT but NOT IMPORTANT!

Make sure that what they are doing with their time is eventually adding value to their life.

2. The importance of having a top-notch Skill

The world has become a catch-22. You need to have the experience to get a job, & having said that, without a job you can’t have experience.

Skillset is now more important than ever before. Now, at this time, the highest-paying jobs don’t require any degree. They require Skillset & experience.

Top companies like Facebook, Google, Tesla don’t want to see how much you have copied and pasted things from Wikipedia, we mean, how much score you have got in your exam. They need you to get the job done properly.

& With the help of the internet, building a skillset is easier than ever before in history. So cheap & so convenient that from anywhere in the world, anyone can access this.   All you need is a will & put in the time to learn that skill.

3. Importance of being healthy mentally & physically

Being healthy or physically fit doesn’t mean having a six-pack body or anything like you get to see on Instagram or in movies. Being healthy or maintaining a healthy body has a lot to do with discipline than anything else. It’s internal, not external.

what ?! Discipline! huh? It’s a pretty harsh word.

But once you practice it, you will see this isn’t as hard as people think it is. Make it a habit & see the benefit.

make them or tell them to eat healthily, send them to play sports, make them do some physical activity, avoid junk food, especially sugar & bad oil.& see the change.

In the same way, mentally fit doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be sad or you would not be depressed but maintaining focus on while doing anything.

We are surrounded by shiny objects everywhere & the object design in which way that most of the time we forget our own priorities, we lack focus.

So what is the salutation then? We can teach them meditation, how to do things mindfully (one at a time), go to nature once in a while, read some good books, listen to a podcast, be in a great company, etc.

Trust me, this skill can drastically change their life.

4.  Being grateful for what you have, but never settling

Be grateful for even the little you have. If you have more, be grateful for that, but be grateful!

“Gratitude makes sense of the past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow”!

Life is a blessing, and they could’ve had it a lot worse, so shake off this feeling that life somehow treated them unfairly and buckle up.

Once they make peace with your current reality and realise it’s actually enough, they to break free and finally go after having more.

There’s nothing worse than a victim mentality of  “life has been unfair to me” trap. Gratitude is the key to happiness & you should always tell your child to check on that.

5. Life is a game, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, despite life goes on

The more they understand the fundamentals of life, the easier it will be for them to play it.

We are all an organism that shares this floating rock with another 8 billion who are just like you and another 70 billion living things who don’t even know you exist.

There is a concept which we truly find fascinating called: THE OVERVIEW EFFECT.

It’s something that astronauts get to experience when leaving Earth and looking back at it from a distance. Once you’re in space, you can see how tiny the entire world is, how we’re all in conflict for things that do not matter, and from a nihilistic point of view, individuals don’t matter. You are part of an entire living colony that does not care about the problems of the individual because they don’t really matter.

They matter to you, but not the colony.

It’s one of those things we plan on experiencing before we die, because the overview effect changes the way you look at things, at worries, at problems, at disappointments and more.

It’s time we all stopped thinking so small, faced the harsh truths of life, accept those which we can accept and do our best to live a life that’s valuable.

Wanna get a feel of this topic of space or astronaut? Watch the movie Interstellar by Christofer Nolan or any kind of sci-fi movie (except Bollywood movies like Mission Mangal).

You will get it what we are talking about.

6.  All growth happens outside their comfort zone

In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, “you can’t climb a tree or a hill with your hands in the pocket”.

No matter which school they are in which institute you are in or might wanna get in, they have to work hard to make something rememberable. Growth comes from trying new things, comes from failure, comes from success and from uncomfortable conversations.

If they’re just starting out the best way to learn more about yourself and the world is by throwing yourself in it.

How sad would it be to live their life in a small bubble without getting to learn who you really are, to find out that there are millions of other things you find fascinating, that once they leave your comfort zone other dots, they haven’t even considered before, people they have never seen, places they have never been.

In every stage at their life Risk it, the reward is worth it.

7. There is something in life that you can’t control

We human worry a lot. As the only species on the planet who can think, most of the time we worry about the unnecessary things that aren’t in our control. We know as we are evolving as a human & growing technologically, medically, agriculturally most of the things on the planet we can control.

Having said that, still, there is still something that you can’t control. Like where we are born, who our parents are, when we are born, the colour of our skin, death, our past etc.

So the sooner your child understands this and focuses on what we can control, they will feel more free better about life & themselves.

8. Reading book can be their competitive advantage in life

We have said this on many of our articles & we will say it again.

“The man who read lives thousand life a man who doesn’t live only one”.

Books are still heavily underrated because most people don’t understand what the real value is. A book will cost you $20-50 dollars maximum or Rs. 5000 maximum depending on the topic. But the value they will provide use appropriately can generate millions of dollars or in crores.

Some people look at books as forms of entertainment, instead of seeing books for what they are, litteral Knowledge vaults.

Someone’s life experiences, mistakes, failures, successes, everything someone learned in 50 or 60 years can be downloaded into your brain in a couple of days. How amazing is that?!

It’s time you started reading books!

Some people confuse books with movies as a form of entertainment. Like movies, but Books are not about entertainment; instead provide you with access to some of the greatest minds that ever lived.

Now, this era book is more easily accessible to everyone. Even if they hate reading, they can gain knowledge in the form of an audiobook. Or if you don’t have the money, you can get it from a library or a PDF form on the internet. So don’t make excuses.  Make your child start reading. &

If you still wanna know which book suits best for child, check out this article we made a while ago on BOOKS, THAT WILL TEACH YOUR CHILD SOME MEANINGFUL VALUES.

9. Importance of having a good & real relationship

Humans are a social animal. We can’t live alone. We have been living in packs since the time we used to hunt for food, about  2 million years ago. Now in this 21-century & we still live in society.

From the time we are born asking for milk to your mother to the moment you die, you are dependent on others in some way or other.

Having a good relationship with your friends & family will make you satisfy more than anything else in the world. similarly, most of the big business in the world has created on a great base of friendship. Your friends & family has a huge influence on you.

As the great quote has said –

“ you are the average of 5 people you hung out most of the time with”.

If you hang out with millionaire despite not being a millionaire, sooner or later you will join that group, in a similar way if you are someone who hangs out with  5 losers, guess who is the sixth!

The sooner they will understand the influence of people around them on them, the sooner they can bring quality friend at life. This can change their life forever.

10. Identify who they really are, what makes them happy & what doesn’t

The big mistake most people make is think they need a billion dollars to be happy, they think they need a large yacht, a big house, 100 friends and millions donated to charity blah blah.

These people will never make it.

We share the world with almost 8 billion people know, but each of us has his own story to live. You are responsible for yourself, for your growth & for the way you go through your life.

Money is an amazing tool to have in your arsenal, but that’s all it is, ONE OF THE TOOLS, it’s by no means the end goal.

Statistically, you are a lot more likely to be happy with just 2 friends than over 10, because the more the size of the friend pool increases, the less amount of attention each of the participants can show one another.

Also, comfort is really awesome, but happiness comes from not having to worry about the basics.

But despite all of these  & at the end of the day happiness is a choice & sometimes it requires hard work.

Teaching child about this basis of happiness can change your child’s life forever.

By the time writing this article famous Indian movie star Sushant Singh Rajput has committed suicide in his own home at Bandra in Mumbai. the whole country has been shaken up with this news. the reasons why he committed suicide hasn’t come yet, however, people in social media are talking about that Depression is the reason for this.

  11. The more you learn the more you earn

First, you need to learn.

then you can cut the l  from learn & make it earn. Right?

We wanna start it with a great quote-

“If you are not learning, you are just dying”.

Learning creates value & the world rewards people who are valuable, because valuable people can create value for others and in exchange for that value, they can get whatever they want.

There are many ways to become valuable, from filling a position in a company, to creating a product or service that people use, to showcase your talent to the entire world.

The more valuable you are, the richer you will be. The only way to become more valuable is through the increase of knowledge, skill level and time. Learn how to be better and then practice being better at it for long enough that you start to see noticeable differences.

It takes 10,000 hours to master anything, that’s why the rich have their children try a bunch of activities in order to get a head start on that number of hours. & if you want to know more about what rich teach their child check out this 3 part article we made on this topic.

 12. Everything has a price, find what is undervalued

Let this sink in for a moment.

Really everything in life has a price either you have to pay for it by money, by time, by work or some way or other. but you have to pay for it.

For example, you are reading this article for free but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have any value. Exact same goes with a book, a book will cost you $20-50 depends on the topic but the knowledge which written in it if used correctly can generate you millions of dollars.

Everything has a price, while their job is to find out which is undervalued & cut them or at least pay less attention to them.
