Why You Should Travel with Kids

Reading Time: 8 minutes

Life’s too short to eat the same type of food every single day. Not exploring the food culture of the world is a major sin in our eyes, & should be punished accordingly.

Imagine there’s a book with thousands of pages and you read over and over again the same first page & never turning it over. Even hearing that makes you think of how stupid it actually is, but that’s how most people live their lives.

Human is not supposed to do like this. We are a living being of nature. Hence, it is as important as breathing air to go in nature once in a while. See some other thing experience other culture.

Travelling with kids has tremendous benefits. It teaches them about the world along with book smart. Travelling can teach the thing that no one can teach you.  So without further ado, let’s get started…

but before this article one thing you need to conform is you should not confuse tourism with travel. Tourism & travels are both different things. Tourism is a product which has been marketed/ sold to you. Travel is something that you get to experience. Don’t worry if you don’t have any idea what travel is by the end of this article you will have some idea regarding what travel is.  So stick with us till the end…

1. It is a more advanced form of education.

Want child to get smart quick! Start Travelling!

what we love the most about the type of knowledge you get off travelling is that it gives you a detail of insight which you can not match otherwise. You will never be able to get the feel of what the Taj mahal look like by books description, it would be as same as understanding sugar is sweet by words.

You make sense of history, geography and of international event which others only study in school books. This type of experimental knowledge allows this information to stick around a lot longer in your child.

2. It helps them to escape from daily routine & all the hustle & bustle of mundane life.

we are not a machine. therefore we need break sometimes. Kids often complain to their parents, Mom, “I am not feeling good ”.

Can you tell me the reason?

Same place & same work again & again is the answer. by the writing of this article we all have been experiencing this during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Ok, now its time to clear the difference between travel & tourism.

So what is travelling? if not leaving the order and moving towards the unknown?

How far into the unknown you’re willing to go, that’s up to you.

You’re going to places where you don’t speak the language, where people don’t know who you are & you gotta be in control of yourself.

This is called travel. That’s why many people never go to new places. They explored one place with which they’re comfortable and then they repeat the visit. This isn’t travel at all.

Some people go on a tour by travel agencies suggestion or book ticket online by reading reviews of travel websites or reading blogs which blog’s blogger never went to those places, they book tickets places which have been trending.

Even if unfortunately, they go to unknown places, they book expensive hotels then they do the same thing that they do in everyday life.

doesn’t make any sense right?

Big cities are filled with tourists while travellers focus on the less-travelled paths.

You gotta understand that tourism is a commercial product very similar to having a movie pass. You get to experience different things, without having to go out of your comfort zone.

While travelling is more similar to exploring, immersing yourself in a destination to the point where you’re as much a part of it as it is of you.

So this is the difference between travel & tourism.

For travelling, you should plan trips ahead of time and space them out throughout the year so you always have a new one to look up to. It’s also a great way to add a new dimension to your life which makes the hustle bearable. here is an article on guides while travelling with kids.

As mountain dew has said, “ daar ke age zeet hai!”

3: they get to meet new people and hear their stories discover different culture & ideas.

Do you know how strange it is? Despite being more connected than ever via various social network, it’s hard to make new friends and expand your network as well as knowledge.

Travelling is the perfect opportunity for this.

Both parties actively want to expand their networks with people from different places around the world, so the environment is optimized for this type of goal.

The worse thing you want when coming back from a trip is to have never spoken to anyone new. It’s a missed opportunity to learn about the world. Just talk to people and they’ll gladly tell you their stories, about their past and their lives and how they end up the person they are today.

This allows the child to understand the context and form non-superficial relations with people which will dramatically outlast the others.

It doesn’t hurt to keep in touch once in a while. If nothing, still you can talk to any riksha pooler or roadside vendor and know about their culture.

4. It increases children problem-solving skills & they become more street smart.

we are sure you have heard this term “street smart” many times. Do you know what is street smart? no!? Read this…

In travel, you face so many problems & by solving those problems you get so much confident & real-life skill that you can’t imagine.

For instance, without knowing the language how to know what the other person is going to do, how to bargain, how to ask for location, how to ask for something for free(once in a while for fun) etc. Travel comes to you with some real-life problem & by solving this you became street smart.

5. The new food experience  is amazing

Food is an extraordinary sensorial experience. You are literally bringing a part of the new environment inside of your body! What is more personal than that!

Some of our best experience happen around food only, because people can be themselves when eating. Food has that power over people and it brings out their most natural selves.

& if you travel any diversify country like India, then it would be much fun than any other experiences. Within every 200-500 meter, you will get to experience a completely new variety. Sometimes you will like it sometimes you wouldn’t& that’s where the fun happens.

6. Makes children perceive how much they don’t know

The more you will travel the more you will understand about the world & it’s people. if you see from a child’s perspective, they don’t know much about this world, therefore, they sometimes underestimate the value of things which they already have. Cause they didn’t need to work for it, whatever they wish somehow they got that without the work. whether it’s money,  material things, comfort or the little wish they have.

Consequently, they undervalue the importance of hard work, persistency, determination, positivity, human feelings, love, care & the list goes on and on.

travelling with your children can make them understand these things better, more precisely rather than explaining things to them theoretically.

7. Travel forces a child to be more social

If your child is an introvert, travel is a huge opportunity to make him/her social. Teach them they are not alone in this world, others also matter. Especially in this day and age of social media, people lack confidence  Because of their indoor existence.

we are forming our personalities based on almost the same type of pattern provided on the internet.

We all laugh at the same memes, we all share the same videos, watch the same tv shows, we order the same type of clothes from the same online retailers & this list goes on & on.

Now you are no longer you! You’re just a product of what the aforementioned companies want you to be. Same goes with the child.

By the time writing this article, the U.S. citizens have been protesting for black people for the last past 10 days, despite the problem of COVID-19 phenomenon worldwide which hasn’t got solved yet.

8. Some experiences have an expiration date on them, It’s only once in a lifetime

Despite visiting the same places again & again you will never get the same feeling as like before. For instance, visiting the Taj Mahal or Paris for the first time as a child with your parents, vs visiting Paris with your wife or friends. Both are different experiences & both have values on their own.

This means if you don’t travel right now, you’re missing out on something which you’ll never be able to experience again. Same true for adults also, spacially who says, “I will travel after this project got over”. these people don’t understand the value of travel.

Yes, you can see the landmarks after also, but by now we want you to understand that travel isn’t about getting a selfie in front of random buildings or constructions. There’s more to it than that!

9. Teach them history, expand their world.

How many time your child has said history is boring useless. Plenty! Right?

2 types of history are n this world. While one is more focus on rotating, another one is more focused on understanding the culture & learn from it.

We are focusing more on the 2nd type.

The Egyptian Pyramids, the great china world, brazil( the city of football), Paris (the city of love), Milan, Greece’s Athens (where Olympic happens for the first time)  Rome, Venice etc. these places are for visiting, see their architecture, culture, painting, & lot more to explore rather than rotating their history.

Seeing famous sights can make textbooks come to life. What better way to teach your child about history as well as Geography than to have them actually touch it & experience it.

It not just about the world’s history it can be your personal country history also.

E.g we Indians can take our child to different parts of India & show them diversification as well as unity among diversification. Why we are unique than the rest of the world. The old history of our freedom, our ancient spiritual history (which now West have been researching about) & various other things.

10. You & they make memories together

Here’s to the ones that we got

Cheers to the wish you were here, but you’re not

‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories

Of everything we’ve been through

Toast to the ones here today

Toast to the ones that we lost on the way

‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories

And the memories bring back, memories bring back you

– Maroon 5

Amazing song! Isn’t it !? ok, back to the topic,

As this song express beautifully, how great memories are! &  the type of wealth which grows more valuable as time goes by. At one point in life, we’ll all find ourselves left with just our memories. These will probably be the last thing we have to give up before we die, so might as well invest in them.

By travelling with your child you will have a various story to share with them as well as with the next generation. These are even better if shared with people you care about the most, because memories are the underlying bond of relationships, they set the cornerstones for a true relationship as well as friendships.

Here are some FAQs.

Does a 2-year-old need a plane ticket?

Infants, which are defined as younger than 2 years old don’t need a plane ticket as long as they are seated on their parent’s or guardian’s lap. & it is applicable for another transportation also
However, once children reach the age of 2, they will need to sit in their own seat and need a ticket. Some airlines require you to purchase a full adult fare for children aged 2 and older, while others offer child fares that are drastically discounted. it depends upon flight company, their rules & regulation as well as the country they are flying.

Make sure you check this on google before flying.

Do babies fly free internationally?

To travel internationally with an infant, you may often be required to pay 10% of the adult fare, plus taxes and fees, even if the infant will be held in your lap. Your airline will have its own rules so check with them before booking an international flight.

How old does a baby have to be to fly?

Assuming that both mother and baby are healthy, you can travel when your infant is two weeks of age. In some cases, you can fly even sooner than that, but I would recommend holding off if it’s not absolutely necessary.
Some airlines, like American Airlines, let babies fly when they are as young as two days old.
Others, like Southwest Airlines, require newborns to be at least 14 days old. Check the specific airline’s website for details, as some require a physician’s sign-off depending on the age of the baby on the day that he or she will be flying.
